Week 36

Lots going on this week!

Ashley will get labs drawn on Monday and if her counts are high enough we’ll proceed with Week 36 of chemo on Tuesday.

Ashley also begins preschool on Monday!  Upon turning 3, she graduated out of the Early Intervention program which provided all her therapy. She’ll now begin receiving services through the school district.  So Monday will be a big day for us! We’ll be sure to post pics of her first day here!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Ashley turned 3 on Friday! This was a pretty important day to us, because when she was diagnosed we were given very little hope that she would live to see this day.

So many thoughts go through our mind right now.  We think about how all of your love and prayers carried us through.  We think about how we were given the option to not treat her because her prognosis was so poor and the treatment so harsh.  We think about how quickly science progresses and how within weeks Ashley’s treatment protocol was changed to the one that is the reason she is with us today.  We think about all the brilliant medical professionals (surgeons, oncologists, pediatricians, nurses, therapists) who we owe so much to.  Each one of them is heaven sent.  We think about all the other families we’ve met through Children’s Memorial Hospital and how each one of them holds a special place in our heart.  We think about all these things and we realize how blessed we are.  Thank you for all your love and support!

Week 33

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer!! Ashley just completed Week 33 of her treatment protocol. This was another “chemo week” and so far she’s been handling it great! She’s an amazing little girl! From here she has six more rounds of chemo!! Her last round is due the week before Christmas. it’s so exciting to be this close to the end.  I’ve talked to a few other parents who say that once you’re done with treatment it all seems like a distant memory and I really hope that is the case.

We’re also gearing up for Ashley to start preschool in a few weeks. That is going to be a tough one for Adrian and I.  Apart from everything she’s been through, she still feels very much like our baby.  It’s also interesting to look back and remember that Lindsey went to preschool when she was 2. She waved “good-bye” and never cried, never looked back. I’m not quite sure the transition will be as easy for Ashley, but we will soon find out.

Ashley has the next two weeks off and continues with her next round of chemo on Week 36.  Thank you for your continued prayers, love and support!
